The starting point developed from an idea that emerged in the First World War. German soldiers in the East and West discovered how to roll their own smokes and continued the practice when they returned to Germany after the war. After the war ended, GIZEH, which was initially a division of a high quality paper manufacturing company, launched the DCP brand of rolling papers in order to satisfy and capture the growing demand for cigarette papers. The new business venture was soon relocated to Cologne where the corporation as we know it today began. On January 2, 1920 GIZEH Zigarettenpapier-Verarbeitungs-Gesellschaft m.b.H. was officially founded in Cologne, Germany. Special and finest grade paper was processed by GIZEH into rolling papers for handmade smokes. The first brands manufactured were DCP and GIZEH.

In 1935, growing demand made it necessary to increase the production facilities. At the same time the production process was improved by installing high performance machines and the product range was extended to include filter tubes. Since the facilities in Cologne were in constant danger during WW II the decision was made to relocate some of the production operations. Filter tubes were now being manufactured in Vienna and a number of rolling paper operations were moved to Bergneustadt.
In 1944, the entire facility was destroyed and the company was forced to increase its facilities in Bergneustadt. In 1955, a 34,500 sq. foot facility and paper mill was added to the Bergneustadt operation. At the same time, a production facility was built in France.

In 1980, more and more of the production operations were moved to the facilities in France and Austria. In 1992, the production of rolling papers and tubes was split between the facilities. The filter tubes were now going to be produced entirely in France and the rolling papers entirely in Austria. Today, GIZEH Raucherbedarf is a subsidiary of Dutch group, Mignot & De Block.
In 2002, all administrative, marketing, printing and warehousing was moved to the new headquarters in Gummersbach. From the state-of-the-art facility we supply GIZEH products to our customers worldwide.
